OIL: Plein Air/Impressionist June 9-13 '08
All Levels Outdoor & Studio

Cynthia Britain's favorite activities are twofold - painting and spending time in nature. It is the combination of these two passions that have resulted in her becoming an award winning plein air painter. "I can't imagine a more gratifying experience than painting outdoors while listening to the birds sing and feeling the sun on my face. My intent is to express the intrinsic truth and beauty of my subject. To reveal the power or presence of spirit in a place or person. I am inspired by what I feel and by what I see...They reflect one another."
This class is open to all levels of painters. It will provide a foundation for learning to paint “on location.” Emphasis will be on composition and design, color mixing, and simplifying shapes and values. The workshop will combine in-studio lecture/demonstration and on-location painting.

FRANK WEBB AWS June 2 3-27 '0 8

All Levels Studio

Frank Webb is one of the nation’s premier watercolor teachers. A dynamic instructor, he brings enthusiasm to his classes, making painting an exhilarating enterprise. Frank offers a sophisticated approach to watercolor & seeks to inspire artistic self-discovery rather than have students replicate his own style. He stresses the importance of how the artist sees before the painting process begins. He supports discussions about the synthesis of abstraction & realism with clear, dramatic demonstrations.

.NICKI LANZI

WATERCOLOR: Floral July 7-11 '08
All Levels Outdoor & Studio

Nicki Lanzi, a teacher for over 23 years, willingly shares her talent with her students. One of her favorite subjects to paint is flowers, drawing much of her memories from Monhegan Island Maine, where she has painted florals for nine years. She has won many awards for capturing the beautiful transparent beauty of petals, the gracefullness of their being and the design concept of their placement in a painting. You will learn how to paint transparent washes, blending the colors on the paper, allowing for beautiful graded washes, create interesting leaf colors, and how to leave the white areas to capture light. Sit back, relax and learn the basic techniques of watercolor painting, touching on light, shadow and design. Nicki will share many techniques in design and how to enhance your painting through the critiques given each day. She will give individual help, is open to your questions and shares her art experiences with you.

WATERCOLOR & OILS: Plein Air July 14-18 '08
All Levels Outdoor & Studio

James Asher approaches watercolor with a boldness and attention to detail that is rarely seen today. A traditionalist, he is mindful of the philosophy of being true to nature in the creation of his work. A master of technique in both traditional watercolor and gouache, Asher's paintings reflect the scope of his travels in Europe, Kashmir, and the Americas, as well as his interest in the American west.

KENNETH CADWALLADER

OIL: Figure in Landscape July 21-25 '08
Intermediate & Advanced Studio & Outdoor

Kenneth Cadwallader prefers to see the subject as described by the natural world, whether painting in the studio or painting a landscape 'en plein air'. The results are fresh, spontaneous paintings that capture the subtle nuances of nature.
Cadwallader's original oil paintings are painted in a style that combines Impressionism and Realism. Each piece expresses his sincerity in his handling of the paint, as he strives for honesty in the representation of life. A purist in practice, Cadwallader chooses to paint directly from life itself.
